LIEGE MAXIMO 101
Jun. 22nd, 2012 12:55 pm
Personality
Undaunted by either the blackness of the cosmos or the threat of Unicron, Liege Maximo seeks out the thrill of discovery. Though he may disappear for days into his tower to brood over a new idea, or vanish for weeks in the pursuit of a distant star, he never fails to reappear suddenly amongst the Thirteen, and will gladly test out his concepts on the ear of any who might be around. In fact, he particularly seems to enjoy citing unsettling theories, and has been rumored to enjoys discovering the manipulation of others as much as he enjoys the manipulation of matter itself.
Not an easy mech to impress, Liege can be cold and distant, disdainful of any beings that he does not believe are worthy. Although Refugees with his mark will find it easier to gain his trust and his attention, they might also find themselves the subjects of his interest, or pawns within his larger games. To those few within his 'circle,' he can be amiable, with a sharp wit and a cynical sense of humor. He prefers to tell the truth, even if it is blunt, and can give excellent advice. Always one to get his way, he'll seek the means to his ends through careful planning and strategy, often engineering plots or experiments years in advance which pan out without him having to lift a finger. It is difficult to know what Liege's true motivations are, however, even for those who are his friends. Be careful in dealing with him.
Be very careful. He may have every answer you seek, or he may offer that which you most desire, but only rarely does that come without deep, binding ties, words in tiny print, or the seeds to one's eventual destruction.
History
As one of the youngest and more impatient of the firstforged, Liege was often frustrated at his apparent lack of purview, unable to find what it was that he, specifically, had been built to do.
To compensate for this void, Liege turned to science and exploration--dabbling in everything local in an attempt to find some task that 'resonated' with him, and then dabbling in anything foreign when nothing on Cybertron satiated him. It was he, perhaps, who ventured furthest into the unknown, matched by only Vector in distance traveled, but outmatching Vector in his curiosity of what was found.
Before the refugees began falling through the Lambda tear, Liege would stay out in the cosmos for great lengths of time, researching alien materials and bringing back substances which he believed to be of use or artifacts that he found curious. A great many of the truly alien objects currently on Cybertron had been due to him, not the least of which being the strange, organic fossils or bits of silicone bone. He had the most contact with other civilizations, and although he was open enough about each new species he has met, cataloging them and sharing his knowledge with his brethren, he kept the greatest part of his discoveries to himself. It was on these foreign trips that he learned a great deal about how societies worked, how individuals worked, and, perhaps, how to best influence both. He also took his name from these voyages, specifically choosing to avoid the title of 'Prime' until he learned exactly what he, himself, would have dominion over.
After the tear happened, he preferred to remain on Cybertron. He saw less and less reason to venture out solving (or creating) problems for others when there was a large problem here that required his attention...and Refugees or Monsters that could bring the 'alien' to him. He continued to take trips out into space, but they became much shorter, and with much more purposeful results.
Most of his research now focused on what could best rid them of the tear--or the monsters that continued to fall through it. To him, the Lambda was an annoyance, at best, one which he intended to rid himself of as quickly as possible so that he can get back to exploring.
Purview
Although he speaks of it to no one, he is beginning to suspect where the ranges of his powers lie. It was only in his trips across the Galaxy, after all, that he was able to meet other aliens and other robots who exhibited the traits which he influenced, and get to know those traits more intimately.
Some might call them selfishness. Desire. Aggression.
Evil.
He doesn't.
Not yet.
All he knows is that he's capable of seeing that which motivates a creature or, if they are lacking in that department, he's capable of providing that motivation instead. It is endlessly fascinating to him that such a tiny nudge in one direction or another can produce such cascading consequences, sparking events as catastrophic as war or sparking events as monumental as evolution. Being someone who has long lusted after a dominion, himself, Liege could not be more pleased to have a purview over lust, itself.
Now that he suspects what he is capable of, however, he is intent on proving it to himself. Unlike many of the Firstforged, his powers are incredibly subtle and difficult to track...which is perhaps why he's so diligent in his experiments, recording down every reaction that a person he has 'influenced' might make. Because he is still learning how far his range extends, he is much more likely to take any opportunity to use his talents than his brethren would be to use theirs.
Because he also knows that he is not as morally upright as the other Firstforged would prefer him to be, he also takes great pains to keep his gifts a secret, knowing they would not approve of these new experiments he's trying on not-necessarily-willing individuals. He feels the results are worth whatever methods he employs, but he also fears the consequences should he be found out--especially from Nexus, who his purview extends dangerously close to.
He can bide his time, after all.
Eventually, he'll be adept at his manipulations, and then...well.
Then it won't matter who knows.
Other than being able to 'spark' desires/selfishness/motivation/entitlement/etc in others, there are other talents which Liege does possess. Like the other Firstforged, he was built with the ability to defend himself and his planet, and, despite being smaller than the others, he can still pack quite a punch. He has innumerable spikes along various parts of his armor--some visible, some hidden, which he can use in close combat. For enemies within the middle and long range, he has a set of three spears, two of which can be thrown and remotely recalled back to him, one of which is sturdier and serrated at the tip and can be used to fight. He enjoys the challenge of using multiple weapons at once, and worked closely with Solus to ensure that the spear's recall programming meshed seamlessly with his own. It does, and he could treasure few possessions more than he treasures his spears.
As with the other Firstforged, Liege is also capable of making his own personal space-bridge. He is not nearly as adept with his as Vector, nor are his nearly as powerful, but the one thing he can match Vector in is distance. Without a propulsive mode of his own, Liege has only his spacebridge with which to explore the galaxy and, over time, this has made him exceptionally accurate in long-distance jumps. He has also been known to use the propulsive units from his spears to maneuver in space, which makes him doubly in debt to Solus--not that he would ever admit. He simply makes certain that she gets first choice in the rare materials he brings back from his explorations, in return.
